2012 marks the 34th occasion that Caerwys Agricultural Show has been held. I can vividly recall the show when it was first held close to the centre Caerwys on a May Day Bank Holiday. Unfortunately, the weather was cold and rainy! Rescheduling the show to June has meant that the weather has been more generous and we have usually been blessed with sunshine and the show has reaped the benefits.

I have been involved with the show for 28 years - yes, a long time! I first helped out as a committee member, but was then appointed to the post of treasurer - a position I held for well over 20 years. For the past few years I have been the show’s official photographer, and been honoured to accompany the visiting civic dignitaries around the show field. And, what a difference now to the time when it was held in Caerwys!

Although still called the Caerwys Agricultural Show there has been no suitable site available in Caerwys that can accommodate the show which has now grown to include a variety of activities and attractions that the visitors to the show have come to expect. I am grateful to Paula and Arfon Spencer, for the use of their fields in Babell, which has ensured the continuation of the show, which is quite close to Caerwys town.

I am honoured to be appointed as President for the 2012 annual show. Apart from wishing the show every success, I would like take this opportunity to thank the show committee, in particular, for their dedication and enthusiasm in organising the show. Additionally, the show could not be staged without the help of all the volunteers during the days leading up to and after the show. However, and just as important, the show would not be a success, without the sponsors, the exhibitors, the competitors, and in particular, you - the members of the public - who visit each year. Without your attendance and contribution - the show would not be the success it is each year.
